Navratri at Cambridge Montessori: Celebrating Culture, Tradition and Values At Cambridge Montessori, we believe childhood is the perfect time to introduce children to Indian traditions. For this reason, Navratri offers a wonderful opportunity to teach little learners about courage, kindness, prosperity and knowledge through fun, meaningful experiences. Navratri celebrates the victory of good over evil and honours the divine feminine. Each of the nine days has special significance, highlighting the virtues of the Goddesses and the values they represent. Learning Through Stories and Role Plays Our Navratri celebrations gave little learners the chance to explore the significance of the Goddesses through role plays, captivating stories and meaningful conversations. As they listened and participated, children discovered how these virtues inspire us to be brave, kind and wise in everyday life. Meanwhile, vibrant ethnic outfits added colour to the celebration as children embraced our rich cultural heritage. Everyone also enjoyed healthy, delicious sundal, making the festivities even more memorable. Bringing Traditional Indian Games to Life Along with the festive activities, children enjoyed traditional Indian games like Pandi, Pallanguzhi and Thayam. These games brought age-old traditions to life while making learning fun and interactive. Beyond entertainment, each game offered valuable learning opportunities. For example, children practised counting, developed logical thinking and explored simple strategies. Moreover, playing together helped them improve concentration, coordination and social interaction. As a result, the children learned important skills while enjoying time with their friends. Growing Through Our Traditions Through these festive experiences, children connected with their cultural roots and discovered the beauty of Indian traditions. In addition, stories, role plays and traditional games made learning more meaningful and memorable. At Cambridge Montessori, we believe festivals are much more than celebrations. They also help children understand their heritage, appreciate their culture and develop important values. Ultimately, these shared experiences create joyful childhood memories and lessons that stay with them for life. Save the Tiger! Save the Tiger! “Save the tiger! Save the Tiger!” echoed through Cambridge Montessori, Sunnambu Kolathur, as our little ones became the voice of the wild. Celebrating International Tiger Day On July 29, which is International Tiger Day, our children learned about India’s majestic national animal. Specifically, they discovered its incredible strength and beauty while understanding the urgent need to protect this endangered species. What Makes Tigers Unique? During our interactive sessions, the kids learned that every tiger’s stripes are unique, much like a human’s fingerprint. Because of this distinct feature, each tiger is truly one of a kind. Learning & Protecting Our Wildlife Through engaging stories, discussions, and creative art, our young learners realized that when forests disappear, tigers lose their habitats. Furthermore, they grasped how crucial nature conservation is for the planet’s future. Consequently, our school pledged to protect nature so that these magnificent creatures can continue to roam freely. Our Message Ultimately, every tiger matters. International Yoga Day – Nurturing Mind, Body and Spirit Commencing the Year with Mindful Movement The Academic Year 2026–27 at Cambridge Montessori commenced with a meaningful celebration of International Yoga Day on 19th June 2026. It was a proud moment for all of us as Indians to celebrate yoga, a timeless gift from our culture that continues to inspire and benefit people across the world. At Cambridge Montessori, we believe that education is not limited to academic learning alone. Our approach focuses on the holistic development of every child—physical, mental, emotional, and social. In many ways, the philosophy of yoga beautifully complements the Cambridge Montessori approach, as both seek to nurture balanced and mindful individuals. Harmonizing Mind, Body, and Spirit Children also participated in breathing exercises and age-appropriate yoga asanas. Our UKG, Grade 1, and Grade 2 students confidently performed Surya Namaskar, Halasana, Matsyasana, Dhanurasana, and Vajrasana, while our younger children joyfully explored poses inspired by nature and animals, including the Butterfly, Cat, Cow, and Cobra poses. Finding Balance: Lessons in Discipline and Calm One of the most beautiful observations during the session was the natural flexibility displayed by our younger children. It reminded us that when we are born, our flexibility, breathing patterns, and natural balance are at their best. As we grow older, we often move away from these natural gifts. Yoga helps us reconnect with them, encouraging healthier habits and greater awareness of our bodies and minds. The celebration also provided an opportunity for students to understand that yoga is much more than physical exercise. It teaches discipline, focus, mindfulness, and inner calm—qualities that support children throughout their learning journey and beyond. Adding a spirit of learning and healthy competition, our students participated in a Yoga Quiz, where they demonstrated their understanding of yoga and its benefits. At Cambridge Montessori, we remain committed to instilling values and practices that contribute to lifelong well-being. Through experiences such as these, we encourage children to develop healthy habits, self-awareness, and a positive outlook towards life. As we begin another academic year, we look forward to many more opportunities that help our children grow into confident, compassionate, and well-rounded individuals. It is a time for children to explore, learn new things, build confidence, and create beautiful memories with friends and teachers.  To our little learners stepping into school for the first time — welcome to a world of discovery and fun! To our returning students — welcome back to your second home where learning never stops.  We also extend our heartfelt gratitude to parents for their continuous support and trust on us.
